Budapest Christmas Fair 2011

Budapest Christmas Fair is one of the top rated Xmas Fairs in Europe. It is fun, festive and free. In 2011 Budapest Christmas Fair starts on November 18 and ends on December 30 (mind you, the Christmas market is closed on Dec 25 and 26, and is only open until 2pm on Dec 24 when Hungarian families come together and swap presents, have their Christmas dinner, etc.).

Vörösmarty tér (Vorosmarty Square) is in the 5th district of Budapest, close to Deak ter where all metro lines come together. Vorosmarty square is not only in the heart of the city, right at the end of Vaci street (a major shopping street, which is pedestrian only zone), but also a 2 minute walk from the river Danube where you can see the beautiful views of Budapest’s most visited World Heritage site (the Danube, the Castle Hill, the Parliament, etc.). The Budapest Christmas Market on Vorosmarty Square is a must see, even if you are dislike shopping. The street foods, concerts and sights are worth a short walk.

The Christmas market of Budapest is open almost all days from 10 am to 8 pm Mon – Sun in the period of November 18 – December 30 (the exceptions are December 24 with a half day opening hours from 10 am to 2 pm, and the Xmas market is closed Dec 25 and 26)

  • you can buy gifts, souvenirs of high quality, authentic and truly handcrafted items
  • you can eat and drink to your heart’s content (there will be traditional foods, snacks, hot meals as well as authentic Hungarian brandy, herbal liqueur, desserts, etc.)
  • you can listen to festive concerts (folk music is most highlighted)
  • you can take part in the giant Advent Calendar door openings at Cafe Gerbeaud on Vorosmarty ter

There is no entrance fee, admission is free of charge to the Xmas market in Budapest.
