The Budapest Christmas Market (or the Xmas markets in Budapest, as there are more) is not only a must see for visitors, but many tourists flock to Budapest with the aim to see the Christmas market, enjoy the live music, sample the drinks and foods and buy gifts at the more than 100 handcraft stalls on Vorosmarty Square. The Budapest Christmas Market on Vorosmarty Sq is the most well known Christmas markets in Budapest, and has been running with great success and international acclaim since 1998, with over 600,000 visitors, and the numbers are growing.
Christmas Market by St Stephen’s Basilica
The Christmas Fair in front of St Stephen’s Basilica is one of the most popular Christmas markets in Budapest, with many food & handcraft stalls, a beautiful laser show every evening and their own skating rink to provide the ultimate Christmas atmosphere in the heart of the city.

Vorosmarty Square Christmas Market
The Christmas Market on Vorosmarty Square will turn the beautiful square into a magical garden. There will be many concerts (folk bands performing Hungarian folk music and dances, small choirs singing, etc.), occasionally even actors and puppet theatres will perform on the stage, and there is a special handcraft tent for workshops with kids to keep the little ones entertained (e.g. to make Advent calendars, wreaths, make traditional Hungarian dolls from maize, etc.).
Venue: Vorosmarty Square (Vörösmarty tér, M1 metro station) downtown Budapest, District V
Entrance fee: Free
The Christmas market on Vorosmarty Square is not only free, but there is free wifi too.
Other Budapest Christmas Markets
To be fair, there are several more Advent Markets and Christmas fairs all over Budapest, like the lesser known and less touristy Obuda Christmas Market on Fo Square (Fő tér), or the Christmas Market in Ujpest district (at the end of the M3 metro line in the north), the Christmas Market on Bakats Square, or the WAMP Design Christmas Market.
