The Danube Carnival could also be called International Folk Dance Festival. It is a summer festival with a heavy folksy accent where folk dancers rule the stage. There are several venues (most events will be on Vorosmarty Square), each promising a nice cultural event with family activities, and anyone is very welcome to try their legs at Hungarian folk dances.
Danube Carnival 2013, Budapest
From June 14 to 23, 2013 not only can you see spectacular folk dance shows (many of which are free) of various ages and countries (Bulgarian, German, Greek, Gypsy, Romanian, Indian, Chinese, etc.), but you can also do some gift shopping on the Danube Carnival Fair on Vorosmarty Square.
To boot, each evening you can join the dancers and do some happy feet with the folksy crowds and the ensembles on Vorosmarty Square at the free Folk Dance House. When in Budapest, bath and dance, we say (OK, we have rephrased it a bit).
Here is the programme of Danube Carnival 2013 (the 18th folk dance festival). Most events will take place on the Vorosmarty Square (downtown Budapest). All events on Vorosmarty square are free of charge, no admission, no hassle, just enjoy. The other main venue is the Duna Palace, which is a 3 min walk from Vorosmarty Square.
