Budapest has several festivals and various fairs all year round. Now that spring is here, let’s see the major April festivals and fairs in the Hungarian capital.
Festivals & Fairs in Budapest – April 2012
- Easter at the Buda Castle, Budapest – (or in Hungarian the ‘Budavári Húsvéti Sokadalom’ a 3 day Easter celebration with processions, concerts, Easter market, etc. on the Buda Castle Hill from April 7 to 9 (Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday) from 10 am to 11 pm. The entrance fee is a real bargain at 1,600 HUF, isn’t it? (family tickets are 4,500 HUF). Concerts include Besh O droM, Balkan Fanatik, Ferencz Gyorgy and the Rackajam, famous folk singers like Marta Sebestyen, Agi Szaloki, etc. Folk dance ensembles, fire show, puppet theatres, and so on.
Easter Market, Workshop & Playhouse – Museum of Ethnographyat the Hungarian Museum of Ethnography, Budapest (Kossuth square) there is an annual Easter market and lots of programmes, handcrafts etc. for families. Kids can at painting Easter eggs, apples, planting flowers, singing traditional Hungarian songs, etc. April 1, 2012.
- Budapest 100 100 is 100 years old in this case: 100 year old buildings in Budapest are celebrated every year. What makes the event special is that you can visit buildings that are otherwise not open to the public (residential houses, schools, offices, etc.) – April 14, 15, 2012. If you like architecture, this is your programme. Don’t miss the building called ‘Paris Courtyard’ on Ferenciek tere in the 5th district. - Budapest Dance Festival – The festival is running from Apr 20 to 29, 2012 and features ballet, contemporary dance as well as folk dance performances. More details at BudapestDanceFestival.hu
