Capoeira in Budapest

If you feel like joining the local capoeira group in Budapest, check out Senzala. Capoeira trainings are twice a week in 3 different locations: the most central is in Ponty utca (3 minutes from Batthyány tér, which is on the red line metro and opposite the Parliament).

Grupo Senzala was started in the 1960s by some young people who wanted to create a perfect capoeira style. In 1984 the increasingly popular group arranged its first meeting in Paris. Since then the now 48-year-old group has acquired an internationally famous name, and has spread itself around the world. It is thanks to Contra Mestre Chiquinho, a pupil of the Carioca Mestre Peixinho, one of the group’s founding members, that since January 2006 Budapest has been one of the Senzala group’s centres.
